Who is behind the website?
My name is Brandon and I live in Nebraska. I built and update NewsAmmo. I started the site in August 2018.
Why did you create NewsAmmo?
I wanted an easier but complete way to keep up with conservative news. We all have a few news websites we tend to visit most, but that doesn’t show the whole picture. For example, there are articles from 30 websites on NewsAmmo. No one is going to visit 30 sites for news every day, but if we have a preview of the headlines we can see which articles we are interested in reading. So the goal is to make conservative news more accessible for everyone.
Why did you pick the name NewsAmmo?
Mainly since it’s short, memorable, and the domain was available. I used a domain name generator to help find the name. I typed in “News” and then it gave me a list of available domain names starting with News. I thought “newsammo” sounded cool, kind of like “infowars” so I went with it!
How did you design the website?
The site was designed to also look good on mobile devices from the beginning. There are 3 columns on the site, and each one flows into the next on a phone or tablet. Overall I wanted to keep the design simple but packed full of content.
Why don’t you include every conservative website?
There are a TON of conservative websites out there. Out of necessity, I aggregate the most popular and most useful sites. If a site is not included that doesn’t mean I don’t like it, I just have to narrow them down to a manageable sized list.
What is the best way to use NewsAmmo?
All headlines are links that will take you to the articles. You can click on any link and it will take you directly there, or you can right-click and open in a new browser tab. On a phone or tablet just hold down a link for a couple of seconds and then tap on “open in new tab” (if you would like to also keep NewsAmmo open). This also applies to the YouTube Channels, Radio Shows and Websites sections.
Garrison Cartoons can be viewed full screen, just click on the image. You can always get to the home page by clicking on the NewsAmmo logo at the top. There’s also a back to top button in the lower right-hand corner.
Were you trying to copy the Drudge Report?
Nope. I was never really a Drudge Report reader. In fact, I didn’t realize until after NewsAmmo started that Drudge also has 3 columns on the website. I didn’t look at or know of any other conservative news aggregators either before making NewsAmmo. I just wanted to put conservative news in one place. I later (through trial and error) learned the wisdom of having everything on a single page as Drudge does. I tried a video page and some others but people barely used those pages. So one page it is!
My goals when I started had nothing to do with competing with Drudge, in fact for several months I had the Drudge Report newsfeed on NewsAmmo. But over time I realized how anti-Trump and liberal it was becoming so I had to remove it, and now welcome readers from Drudge who are tired of that. I have a lot of respect for Matt Drudge and his site’s longevity, but “for the record” I didn’t set out to compete with him.
